on Jun 2, 2021 in Small business

Work burnout is a very real thing and it can make you miserable, sick and even fearful of heading back into the office after a weekend away. That’s no way to live your working life, so if you are dealing with work burnout, it’s time to do something about it…

Take a vacation

Yes, today’s work culture may be that of the workaholic who is chained to his or her desk with barely a break to catch their breath, but really you can take a vacation and no one will mind. If you’re good at your job, taking some time out won’t negatively affect you, but it will enable you to clear your head and come back feeling refreshed, which means you’ll be happier and more productive when you do.

Meditate

Meditation is really good at helping you to release stress and manage negative feelings including anxiety. If you are feeling burnt out, then taking just 10 minutes to meditate each morning before work and 10 minutes to meditate each evening, could really help you to deal with your feelings better. If meditation isn’t for you, exercise can have a similar effect. Just make sure you do something to release that stress before it consumes you.

Lighten your load

If you are in a position to do so, if you are a boss or manager for example, then doing what you can to lighten your load, whether by employing an excellent virtual assistant or delegating less important tasks to those below you will give you some more time and space to work on soothing your stresses, You may feel like you have to do it all, but you really don’t and delegating could help you to find the work-life balance that you crave.

Change it up

Alternatively, you could be asked to be given different duties for a while if that is any way possible. Sometimes, a change is as good as a rest, and if you aren’t doing the same monotonous task day after day after day, you will stop feeling so stressed, burnt out and unhappy with your lot, If your a good employee, most managers will be only too happy to accommodate you if it means keeping you in the team, so don’t be afraid to ask.

Rethink your career

You may be great at your job, but is it greatest for you? The fact of the matter is, the careers we end up in are not always the best careers for us. They’re often less fulfilling than we thought they would be or harder to manage than we ever anticipated, and there is no harm in admitting that and looking for a job that may be more suitable to your strengths and less likely to cause you stress.

Burnout is not inevitable, and if you succumb to it in the workplace, it is possible to fight your way back out, but you need to be proactive for that to happen. Hopefully, the above tips will help you to do just that.
