Bind The Bones Of Your Business With First Aid Training For Shop Staff

When you work in an office environment, it’s unlikely you’ll need to worry much about inviting customers in. For the most part, your workplace is purely for you and your workforce. And, while you will need to consider workplace health and safety, that’s about as far as it goes.

But, if you’re operating in a shop environment, you’re going to see large numbers of customers in that space. Or, at least, that’s the hope. And, with this comes some level of responsibility, both to your staff and customers. The last thing you want is a customer injury on your watch.

Obviously, avoiding this means ensuring your shop meets safety standards. You should do regular checks for sharp objects or uneven flooring. But, it also means accepting accidents happen. Note, too, that your response to such accidents is also part of health and safety. For instance, negligence is one of the many types of premises liability which could land you in hot water. And, if you neglect to respond to customer accidents in the right manner, you could still open yourself up to large lawsuits.

With that in mind, it’s worth considering how you and your team prepare for situations like these. And, one of the best things you can do is to get everyone first aid trained. Many employers avoid doing this for cost and practicality purposes. And, it’s by no means a legal requirement. But, here are three reasons it’s a step worth taking.

Your staff will thank you for it

Often, employers only pay for training which relates to the job role itself. This training is rarely transferable to other roles. But, by investing in first aid training, you’re providing staff with a useful skill they can take forward. This can help in pursuits outside of work, as well as improving resumes. That’s sure to go down well. And,  a happy workforce = a productive team.

It could save you money in the long run

As mentioned, failure to respond to accidents could lead to substantial compensation claims. For instance, if a customer’s left on the floor for a long time after a fall and their injuries worsen because of it, you could be in trouble. This could make an existing lawsuit worse. Even if the trip was through no fault of yours, negligence here could still open legal proceedings. But, if staff are fully trained to deal with situations like these, that’s not a risk. So, even though that course may set you back, you can be sure it’ll save you a lot on the legal side of things.

The benefit of unexpected skills

It’s also worth noting that first aid training brings more than just medical skill benefits to your team. During an emergency, they will all need to work together, stay calm under pressure, and communicate with vulnerable customers. All of which could benefit your business in ways you wouldn’t even expect. So, don’t hesitate to get your team signed up as soon as possible.
