Outsourcing Logo Design and Branding

on Aug 16, 2016 in Small business

Thinking about outsourcing your logo design and branding but don’t know where to start?

There are lots of websites where you can design your own logo or even outsource logo design for a few dollars.

But what are you really getting for when it’s only costing you the price of a coffee? Find out how easy it is to get the logo and branding of your dreams. Plus why it’s a good investment.

DIY logos

Have you gone the minimalist approach to branding and gone a DIY? Or have you outsourced and spent the equivalent of a cup of coffee or herbal tea?

Perhaps ask yourself:

  • Is it unique to your brand or are others running around with the same logo created from a stock standard template?
  • Does it reflect your business and brand?
  • Is it something you immediately fell in love with?

Using a professional graphic design service for your branding and logo design does all that.

Perhaps you haven’t gone the DIY approach or the $5 logo option. But perhaps you’re considering it?

Why you should invest in a reputable graphic designer

  1. It’s an interpretation by another (graphic designer) of who you are (or your business) and what you stand for in a visual way.
  2. Consistent look – branding is about having a consistent look and feel across all of your communications. From your email signature, invoices, social media profile banners, brochures and your website.
  3. If logo design and branding is not something you’ve invested in from the start, you may find that sooner or later you may have to re-brand.
  4. Depending on the package you select it can include branding – from font colours and sizes, to logos that suit all purposes (black and white, monotone or full colour). Even templates for page layouts, design of reports, email campaigns, letters and press releases can all be added to the mix. It’s up to you.
  5. People do judge a book by its cover, unfortunately.

How to find a graphic designer and the process

These days with many freelance graphic designers working from home, you don’t need to be in the same city or even state as your designer.

You can work together via Skype, phone and email. My graphic designer, Revenge Creative is in Brisbane, and I’m in Melbourne. Here’s how it worked.

Process

  • Recommendations count big time. Ask fellow freelancers, friends or family that have a business. Or if you see a logo you like, ask who they used. My graphic designer came highly recommended to me from a copywriting Facebook group I was part of. To me, a good recommendation was what mattered the most.
  • After sending an email, we then discussed my needs and I was soon provided with a proposal of what they could do for me. This included the scope of the project.
  • After agreeing to the proposal I then sent through some logo samples that I liked. I also provided some comments on what I was after.
  • I was then sent a few different versions. They’d conveyed exactly who I was and my brand.
  • I was under no pressure to make a decision but the first one I saw I immediately loved.

Davide encapsulated my brand’s personality, granted it is only me. But it is so ‘me’. And I even loved the description behind the logo by Kat.

If you’re thinking about a DIY logo, then think again. It’s important to get your brand professionally represented right from the start.

Branding and logos create a uniform look and feel. A professional look that’s done well will

encapsulate who your business is.
